Liquid Contentment
There is a light in her
She buried it
As a small child
For protection
She refuses to let it go
Afraid to let it shine
Afraid to look at the demons
That she needs to keep buried
Without the light
She is a shadow self
Seeking “light” from the outside
–approval, beauty, fame, love
Every addict
Has a light that she keeps buried
With alcohol, drugs…diversions
Layers upon layers
I know the light in you
I refuse to engage with shadows
They want my energy, my time
To legitimize them–
I only came to point
To THAT light in you which
Can never be extinguished
Then it is up to you
It takes courage
And self inquiry
And patience
And surrender…
“Go toward the light”
Means the light within
Where only the shadow dies
I hope to God you find it–
And that you are soothed
With love from that light
Bathing your cells
In warm, liquid contentment
