As I age
And life has winnowed out
That which doesn’t fit
Like Hallmark holidays
With manufactured glee
And products for self-improvement
With the subliminal message
Of “you’re not good enough”–
I feel lighter and freer
As I age
And the money grabbers
Have less influence
I can hear the whisperings
Of my soul
The human dance
Of joy and sorrow
Of beauty and ugly
Of life and death
Of celebration and
Commiseration
Are right here
In every minute! Everywhere!
It can’t be bought
Or sold
As I age
And gravity takes it toll
I laugh and cry
At the sagging
And wrinkles
And arthritic pain
So good to be alive
So sad the end is near
First breath
To last breath
From unity
To duality To multiplicity
…back to unity
