This cold winter solstice got me to thinking
That I prefer solitude to parties and drinking
Clear headed and warm in a scarf that I wove
Sipping hot cocoa laced with cinnamon and cloves
The scent of pine and the lights on the tree
Brings glee to my heart and weakens my knees
We’re home alone–just our party of three
On this longest night–Maud , Chaser and me
Maud saw her first–a moving white light
An angel appeared all shiny and bright
I believe in such wondrous things
And Chaser’s tail wagged, when she started to sing
I felt my mother’s kiss on my head
And gathered around us were the souls of our dead
Rhino with Chaser, Maggie with Maud
Too many to name–filled me with awe
If we have loved–we are never alone
They’re always here–our heart is their home
Love doesn’t die–love always loves
And the sun will rise–as it always does.
