You know that friend
The one who sings the high notes
Lifting your spirit with her light
Pointing you to heaven
But the air is cloyingly sweet
And the tea is thin and weak
And you must walk on tippy‐toes
To keep your head in the clouds
You know that friend
Who loves to sing the low notes
And points to shadows
Where the unseeables live
There is richness in darkness
Like coffee and chocolate
But carrying mud in your gut
Is dense and heavy
And what about that friend
Singing all flats and sharps
Where naturals should be
Quirky and off-key
Dance with your friends’ rhythms
And new doors will open
Pointing you to
Your own inner symphony
And when mind, body, spirit
Sync in harmony
Life becomes a sacred song
Of deep love and Aliveness.
