Pierced

Pierced

When something distresses me deeply–
My spirit comforts me
And I start seeing beauty
In the most mundane things

Like the Zen of Maud’s breakfast–
The one circle of fish oil
Floating on her wet food
Or the balance of two minnows

Or the way that a sleeping Chaser
Looks like he is sniffing my foot
And the exquisite shadows
On the ceiling

And if I didn’t have this–
This reprieve from grief
Moments pierced by awe
With messages only for me

Well….life would be hell.
