The commotion woke me–I rolled over and turned on the light; both Maggie and Maud were calmly looking at something on the floor which I thought was a piece of cloth. I turned off the light to go back to sleep; just then the light bulb in my head went off. Turning the light on again, I saw Maud jumping into the air with this piece of cloth between her paws looking like she was trying to make it fly. I watched as she did about 4 pirouettes, then I cautiously got out of bed. EEEEEEUUUUWWWWW–it’s a BAT!! Not wanting to startle Maud, lest she lets it go–I crept to the kitchen to find something to put it in. Nice thing about Maud, she isn’t selfish; she is willing to share her treasures with me. And now her bat is released, but poor thing, I don’t think he will make it. Question is–did that bat fly in here through an open window or did Maud bring him in? Tonight I am going to batten down the hatches. Oh, Maud, I do love you so.
