Remember when
Being called beautiful was a compliment
And it was enough
Before we woke up
And realized
It is a subtle grooming tactic
To keep us preening
To keep us insecure
To keep us shallow
To keep him in control
Remember when
Girls were sweet little princesses
And it was enough
Before we woke up
And realized
It is a subtle grooming tactic
To keep us passive virgins
To keep us demure
To keep us damsels
To keep him King
Remember when
Girls were given baby dolls
And it was enough
Before we woke up
And realized
It is a subtle grooming tactic
To keep us mothers
To keep us housewives
To keep us sex slaves
To give him worth
Remember when
We were either teacher, secretary, or nurse
And it was enough
Before we woke up
And realized
It is a subtle grooming tactic
To keep us oppressed
To keep us exploited
To keep us powerless
To keep him boss
But we woke up
Let's not fall back to sleep!
