Empathy

I hear the Earth
The roar of Her rivers in my veins
The taste of Her rain nourishing me
The pounding of Her waves beating my heart
And Her wind passing through me
Breathing me

And it is the same with you
I feel you in my body
Your anger becomes mine to appease
Your sorrow—mine to lift
Your afflictions and addictions mine to heal
My unease tethered to your disease
My joy to your laughter
And I’ve played Hero to your fears
Too many times to count

Until today
Today the rays of the sun pierced me
Burned through the celluloid
Illumined the projection of you
And dispelled the dream
Of separation

There was never a you
Never another
Never me
Only God
Only Peace
